Katie Mendl is the Australian equine photographer behind ‘Calico Pony’, a fine art photography business specialising in both the natural and ‘black background’ style of equine portraiture. She has been a professional photographer for 7 years after studying full time at the Brisbane College of Photography and Art.
From a young age, Katie had a passion for both horses and photography. She worked for a number of years in different equine disciplines including polo, racing and breeding and later became a professionally trained, qualified photographer. Life eventually led her to combine her photography with the equine world. Hence, Calico Pony was born. She has developed her skills and forged a successful equine photography business, comfortably working alongside high quality stock along with meeting the briefs of clients to a high standard. She feels at home in the presence of the horses, and often spends hours in her down time in paddocks full of them simply photographing their everyday moments.
You can view her print site at www.calicopony.bigcartel.com and her black background style work here in the online gallery. Calico Pony prints are now being stocked and distributed nationally and internationally and she also takes on a number of interstate commission projects and portrait sessions for select clients annually.
